Transfering

In the case where the user has got already a domain with another provider and the domain extension (top-level domain) is on our list, it's possible to perform a transfer to our servers.

These are the steps for a domain transfer:

1. The user pays for the service, which is the price of renewing the domain for 1 year (that extra year is added to the expiration date of the domain ***).
2. We send him an e-mail asking for some
personal data. For some type of domains, like ".com", we also need a transfer code (aka "EPP code" or "Auth-ID") that it's released by the domain provider.
3. We start the transfer as soon as we receive that data and the e-mail's owner will receive a confirmation e-mail with the instructions for verifying the operation.
4. After the verification, the domain is transfered withing 10 working days.

All the details about the process are in our Knowledbase.

If the transfer is delayed for any reason (wrong EPP code, verification issues, incorrect e-mail address, domain locked due to it was registered less than 60 days ago...), we can offer the assigning through our DNS servers meanwhile the issue is solved (dns1.webnode.com and dns2.webnode.com). But remember that we don't provide this kind of settings commonly to all the users.

This is the tutorial that we can send to the users when they ask how to order a domain transfer (click on the link).

*** Beware of these domains: .at, .be, .de, .fr, .it, .nl and .ru
A new year is added to their expiration date BUT after the transfer they will lose all the previous paid years that they may have. Therefore the expiration will be set for 1 year ONLY.
For this cases we should suggest to the user to assign the domain (he/she has to be Premium user).

If the user has a domain with Webnode and he/she resquest to transfer it to another provider, we have to unlock the domain for the transfer and send him/her the Authorization Code if it's necessary (e.g: in case of some domains like .com, .net or .eu).

When we do so, the other provider can perform the transfer.

Domain transfer from project to project

For moving a domain between two Webnode projects we use this tool: https://tools.webnode.com/domains/move
The DNS settings will be changed automatically (though the changes may take up to 24 hours to be effective).

Beware!

The domain's e-mail accounts will stop working during the transfer (if it has got any). Once the operation is finished, it will be possible to create the accounts with Webnode, but they will be created from zero and they won't maintein any previous e-mail that they may have before the transfer.

If the user wants to keep the same e-mails even after the transfer, he/she would need to send us the MX records of his previous provider, so we can point the e-mail accounts to where they were before the transfering.
