Domain registrar vs domain provider:

The registrar is the company which is able to register domains directly without any intermediary (e.g: Realtime Register).
The provider doesn't need to be a registrar, but it needs the intervention of a registrar in order to get the domains for its users (e.g: Webnode).

DNS server vs DNS records:

DNS server: It's a virtual space for hosting domains and their settings. In case of Webnode, the DNS server are the following:

 - dns1.webnode.com (IP: 81.0.235.1)
 - dns2.webnode.com (IP: 94.138.111.98)

 - dns3.webnode.com (IP: 89.185.253.142)

DNS records: They're the actual settings of a domain. For example, there are different type of records to point the domain to a website (CNAME records) or to make that the email works (MX records).

We always recommend to set the DNS records instead of the DNS servers in order to redirect a domain to Webnode. The reason is simple: using DNS records the domain will still redirect to a website even if in the future we change our DNS servers.

CNAME records: They are used to point a domain to an specific website name. They can be set like this:

Name    Type Value
www    CNAME example-project.webnode.com
files    CNAME files.example-project.webnode.com

MX records: MX stands for Mail Exchange and it's responsible for the functioning of the e-mail addresses created under an specific domain. Basically redirect the e-mails to the corret mailbox on the mail server. They can be set this way:

Name    Type Priority Value
@ MX 10 example-project.mx1.webnode.com
@ MX 20 example-project.mx2.webnode.com
@ MX 30 example-project.mx3.webnode.com

Domain quarantine: There is a quarantine peiod for the domains that have expired. The conditions of the quarantine will depend on the type of domain.
